KELOWNA- September, 2006 - Buying gifts for family and friends that are always spot-on can be a challenge at best - after all, how many ties can you give your father-in-law? The gift-giving conundrum may however be a thing of the past, thanks to board game enthusiasts Nick Kellet and his eldest daughter Freya. Who needs a personal shopper when you’ve got GiftTRAP - the game that keeps on giving, or the gift that keeps on gaming!

Designed to test your gift-giving savvy, GiftTRAP enables family and friends to get down to the nitty-gritty by testing (and developing) your emotional intelligence through the giving and receiving of virtual presents. Choose the right gift for your fellow players, and you score points. Choose a bad gift and you lose points. Winning is about being as good at giving the right gift as you are at being given presents you most want.

Sounds easy, right? You get to be the judge of that as you can give any gift that’s dealt from the gift pack. From eco gifts to adventure or cultural choices, you’ll learn about the likes and dislikes of your playmates, even if it’s the hard way! Due to the nature of the game and because no real gifts are exchanged, players may be more likely to be brutally honest with you about what they like or what a flop your choices might be. On the upside, all of this honesty and virtual generosity will keep you in the know, enabling you to maintain a tidy stash of giftable solutions for future occasions. The board game is designed for three to eight players and can be played in as little as forty-five minutes. While you can memorize trivia and google obscure facts, you can’t look up the answers to the inner-workings or preferences of those you like, love or call your family. Now that’s a game that’s worth its weight in gifts!

Kelowna, B.C. - This October, GiftTRAP, the new board game designed to test your gift-giving savvy will attempt to throw the biggest product launch ever through their ingenious Massive Play Weekend. The weekend of October 6-8, 2006 will see GiftTRAP-playing volunteers around the globe settling in for a game or two at the venue of their choice- in their homes, work places, pubs or nearby coffee bars with family and friends. The number of game event locations and groups of new players will help determine the success and possibly world record-breaking launch of the game.

1000 copies of the game have been shipped out to volunteer players in the hopes of not only getting people to play on a massive scale for the weekend, but also to support the GiftTRAP charity partner, Right To Play. Volunteer participants are encouraged to either charge a playing fee or auction off their board games, with proceeds going to the charity, which uses sport and play as a tool for the development of children and youth in the most disadvantaged areas of the world.

The goal is to raise $1 Million dollars over the course of the fun-filled weekend, and Canadian Right To Play Athlete Ambassadors also playing on the weekend in support of the charity will include Canadian Olympic medal winners: Vicky Sunohara and Sami Jo Small from the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team, Kristina Groves and Arne Dankers from the Canadian Speed Skating Team and Adam van Koeverden from the Canadian Kayak Team. UK Olympic athletes John Regis (sprinter) and long jumper Greg Rutherford will also be playing across the pond with the support of Right To Play’s CEO and President, Johann Koss- the Norwegian four-time Olympic gold medal winner.

And because GiftTRAP is the game that keeps on giving, registered volunteers who send in pictures and testimonials from their events and who donate to Right to Play are eligible to win a fabulous $15,000 value prize, including five nights at B.C.’s beautiful Big White ski resort along with complimentary ski passes. Now that’s giving and receiving at it’s very best!
