Kelowna, B.C. - October 2007: When asked, ‘if you could have anything, what would it be? what do you think kids came up with?
You might be surprised sure, there were the obvious material items such as Nintendo Wiis, TV’s and mountain bikes but, just when you thought that kids’ imagination had been banished by the onslaught of TV and computer games checkout some of the other suggestions:
These are just a few of the 640 ideas in the latest version of the family board game, GiftTRAP which has just been voted ‘Best Party Game 2007/2008 by Games Magazine. In coming up with the latest version of GiftTRAP the creators carried out brainstorming sessions with kids at a local school asking them what their ideal gifts would be and were surprised by the results. The games creator, Nick Kellet, said ‘to start with the kids were just coming up with the obvious material gifts but, once we got them thinking, we were really surprised by how creative and passionate they became’. Obviously you cannot really give these gifts but it is fun to guess which of them your kids would have if they could and finding out why is even funnier! These ‘fantasy gifts’ compete for your affection with conventional gift ideas, fantastic holidays, eco-friendly options and even charitable ideas in the game that gets families talking!
About GiftTRAP:
GiftTRAP is the hilarious new game that’s taking the gaming world by storm, winning Games Magazine’s “Best Party Game of the Year 2007/2008” and 5 other awards since launching in Oct’06.
Playing starts conversations with people who think they know each other well or want to know each other better.
The goal is to really get to know your friends and family by choosing the right gifts, but most of all it’s just fun to play and gets you talking about things that matter.
Unlike other party games you don’t need skills in drawing, acting or trivia so it works well when you have a crowd of mixed ages/skills.
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing in a virtual gift-giving game!
You are sure to learn something as you give from the 640 gift ideas from the basic to the bizarre.
Despite there being 100’s of party games, it’s rare to find one that adults and children both enjoy playing. It’s fun because everyone gets to say what he or she thinks about the gifts before they know what they have been given.

Kelowna, BC (PRWeb) January 13, 2007—GiftTRAP’s 1st annual Holiday Gift opinion poll unveils a costly chasm between those who give and those who receive;
* 65% wanted honest feedback if they gave a bad gift
* In contrast only 15% gave honest feedback to admit they didn’t like a gift
* We’ve named this 50% disparity the ‘Gift Gap’
The glaring double standard is that we mostly want to receive honest feedback, but we are unwilling to return the favor and actually give others this feedback.
This begs a very important question: How do we find a socially acceptable way of telling people we don’t like their gift?
Our survey indicated that 68% of gifts were inspired by conversations with friends, thus our inability to be honest perpetuates the great re-gifting cycle. A complex bluffing game exists below the surface resulting in a mountain of wasted resource that fuels the re-gifting economy.
Our survey estimated each person gave $250 of unwanted gifts this Holiday and found 35% of gifts were unloved and that each person spent a little over $750. The lifetime cost per person of bad giving is $8,000 just on Holiday gifts alone.
Gift giving isn’t just reserved for the holidays. When you think about it we waste money through out the year.
How are we going to narrow the Gift Gap and rid the world of unwanted gifts? Are you ready willing and able to give honest feedback next time you receive a gift? How will you begin conversations that reveal your passions that lead to better gifts?
With Valentines Day only weeks away we don’t have long to wait to put this into practice.

Kelowna, B.C. - This October, GiftTRAP, the new board game designed to test your gift-giving savvy will attempt to throw the biggest product launch ever through their ingenious Massive Play Weekend. The weekend of October 6-8, 2006 will see GiftTRAP-playing volunteers around the globe settling in for a game or two at the venue of their choice- in their homes, work places, pubs or nearby coffee bars with family and friends. The number of game event locations and groups of new players will help determine the success and possibly world record-breaking launch of the game.
Don’t have a game board for this weekend? Not a problem! The masterminds behind GiftTRAP have come up with a version (http://www.gifttrap.com/cut_out_template) that’s downloadable and user-friendly. All you need is a pair of scissors, a printer and your gift-giving savvy to have a blast during the Massive Play weekend. It may not be the same as owning an heirloom copy of the real deal, but it’s a great way to test play yourself into gift giving know-how. Players are even encouraged to take photos of gifts and think up future editions of the ever-evolving game, just to keep you on your toes!
1000 copies of the game have been shipped out to volunteer players in the hopes of not only getting people to play on a massive scale for the weekend, but also to support the GiftTRAP charity partner, Right To Play. Volunteer participants are encouraged to either charge a playing fee or auction off their board games, with proceeds going to the charity, which uses sport and play as a tool for the development of children and youth in the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
The goal is to raise $1 Million dollars beginning with the fun-filled weekend, and Canadian Right To Play Athlete Ambassadors also playing on the weekend in support of the charity will include Canadian Olympic medal winners: Vicky Sunohara and Sami Jo Small from the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team, Kristina Groves and Arne Dankers from the Canadian Speed Skating Team and Adam van Koeverden from the Canadian Kayak Team. UK Olympic athletes John Regis (sprinter) and long jumper Greg Rutherford will also be playing across the pond with the support of Right To Play’s CEO and President, Johann Koss- the Norwegian four-time Olympic gold medal winner.
And because GiftTRAP is the game that keeps on giving, registered volunteers who send in pictures and testimonials from their events and who donate to Right to Play are eligible to win a fabulous $15,000 value prize, including five nights at B.C.’s beautiful Big White ski resort along with complimentary ski passes. Now that’s giving and receiving at it’s very best!

KELOWNA- September, 2006 - Buying gifts for family and friends that are always spot-on can be a challenge at best - after all, how many ties can you give your father-in-law? The gift-giving conundrum may however be a thing of the past, thanks to board game enthusiasts Nick Kellet and his eldest daughter Freya. Who needs a personal shopper when you’ve got GiftTRAP - the game that keeps on giving, or the gift that keeps on gaming!
Designed to test your gift-giving savvy, GiftTRAP enables family and friends to get down to the nitty-gritty by testing (and developing) your emotional intelligence through the giving and receiving of virtual presents. Choose the right gift for your fellow players, and you score points. Choose a bad gift and you lose points. Winning is about being as good at giving the right gift as you are at being given presents you most want.
Sounds easy, right? You get to be the judge of that as you can give any gift that’s dealt from the gift pack. From eco gifts to adventure or cultural choices, you’ll learn about the likes and dislikes of your playmates, even if it’s the hard way! Due to the nature of the game and because no real gifts are exchanged, players may be more likely to be brutally honest with you about what they like or what a flop your choices might be. On the upside, all of this honesty and virtual generosity will keep you in the know, enabling you to maintain a tidy stash of giftable solutions for future occasions. Greg Schloesser a member of the International Gamers Awards Committee said, ‘GiftTRAP is simply fun, and evokes continuous outbursts of surprise, frustration and laughter as gifts are revealed. GiftTRAP is truly a gift worth giving or getting!’
The board game is designed for three to eight players and can be played in as little as forty-five minutes. While you can memorize trivia and google obscure facts, you can’t look up the answers to the inner-workings or preferences of those you like, love or call your family. Now that’s a game that’s worth its weight in gifts!
