GiftTRAP is the hilarious new game that’s taking the gaming world by storm and putting the social back into board games.
The goal is to really get to know your friends and family.
You win by knowing your friends and choosing the right gifts, but most of all it’s just fun to play and gets you talking about things that matter.

Love to play Trivial Pursuit, Cranium or Apples to Apples - You will love this family party game.
GiftTRAP is all the fun of Secret Santa without needing to shop or wrap.

GiftTRAP Live is the first site to track just how well you know each of your friends and family! Who knows you best? Who do you know best?
It’s a social collaborative game based on exchanging gifts, but its also competitive! You rank by knowing your friends best and by them knowing you!
We’ve taken GiftTRAP, the award winning board game & merged in elements from eCards, Wish-lists and social gaming, all in a Web 2.0 style. Its all about fun & learning what makes you & your friends tick!
Ok, so here’s the news. Good and not so good.
We’re running behind schedule on the remix contest, in fact we got diverted on a couple of other projects, that and the game business has dealt us a few challenges along the way. Game publishing is one big emotional roller coaster!
Anyhow, we won’t be making it to Essen for 2007, but we are back on the hunt for new gift ideas for the GiftTRAP Minis expansion packs. We will be featuring the winning games with the product. So apologies for not communicating the earlier. We aren’t quite sure of the launch plan at this point, but we should have a better idea by the end of September and we’ll reconfirm the main prize at that point too.
We have some great submissions for the contest, but we can’t make them available until we have a firm plan for the Minis.
On the good news front, we are now officially out of stock - all 10,000 copies of GiftTRAP have gone! So now you can only buy it from the remaining stock at BrownBox, ACD (and game stores they supply) and from online stores such as Funagain.com that have stock.
We will be announcing two new versions of GiftTRAP shortly (all that we’ll say for now is they are both bi-lingual and family focussed) and they contain lots of new fun gift ideas and a good selection of our favorites from the first edition.)
Also we have also been working on an online version of the GiftTRAP that you can play via email with as many friends as you like, but getting these two versions ready has delayed this a little. If you want to an early tester of the game, just send us an email and we’ll send you an invite to join in the fun and you can then invite your friends. While were testing its in invite only beta mode. More soon.
Our 1st annual Holiday Gift opinion poll uncovered a costly chasm between those who give and those who receive;
The glaring double standard is that we mostly want to receive honest feedback, but we are unwilling to return the favor and actually give others this feedback.
This begs a very important question: How do we find a socially acceptable way of telling people we dont like their gift?
Our survey indicated that 68% of gifts were inspired by conversations with friends, thus our inability to be honest perpetuates the great re-gifting cycle. A complex bluffing game exists below the surface resulting in a mountain of wasted resource that fuels the e-Bay/re-gifting economy.
Our survey estimated each person gave $250 of unwanted gifts this Holiday and found 35% of gifts were unloved and that each person spent a little over $750. The lifetime cost per person of bad giving is $8,000 just on Holiday gifts alone.
Gift giving isn’t just reserved for the holidays. When you think about it we waste money through out the year.
How are we going to narrow the Gift Gap and rid the world of unwanted gifts? Are you ready willing and able to give honest feedback next time you receive a gift? How will you begin conversations that reveal your passions that lead to better gifts?
With Valentines Day only weeks away we don’t have long to wait to put your honesty to the test.
The poll is still running with over 8,500 responses from over 850 respondents so far.
Surveys have always been a good way to attract media attention, or thats the way the theory goes.
Have you ever tried to create a survey? Our Gift Giving poll was my first ever poll and I found it much harder than I’d expected. Clearly the author of every poll has an agenda and a message they want to air through the poll. Creating a collection of interesting and controversial questions is hard questions that people will answer and that the media may pick up on.
I brainstormed a few question ideas and searched existing surveys for ideas, but it wasnҒt easy. The good news about running a poll from your website is that its super easy to edit or drop a question or a response, but it was still really hard to create an interesting poll. I found us quickly dropping questions that didnt generate a variety of opinion.
While working on the poll I came up with the idea of sharing the results with other companies that share an interest in the subject of your poll, albeit a different slant. This approach proved to be highly effective. Its a simple win-win proposition - you host the survey and share the results and your partner companies can;
Its a good deal for lots of reasons, but my favorite one is that your poll gets to have multiple perspectives and to garner many more votes and much more credibility. With so many polls out there, today you need something a more credible to stand out and really grab attention.
Our poll wasnҒt perfect. I wish it was asynchronous and didnt refresh the page every time you vote (I used a module called EE Poll which is integrated into Expression Engine, which is the platform used to build this website). Overall were very happy to have created, managed and run a poll with over 8.500 responses over a matter of weeks.
Ive got to make special thanks to Used Canada and Deep Fun for their help in contributing both traffic and content for our poll.
We’re beginning the second phase of the project and trying to use the content to connect with the media and bloggers, but figured it was a good idea to share progress on phase 1.
PS If you’d like to join in a future poll or you’d like us to share in one of yours let us know. We’d be happy to help.
I came across a new book that I’m waiting to arrive at my local book store.
It’s called “Made to Stick” and I first found out about it here with an interview with the authors by Guy Kawasaki
It looks like it could provide some great insight into what makes things Viral.
Why is it all my favorite books are orange?
